Bukittinggi is one city in the province of West Sumatra, Indonesia. The city was once the capital of Indonesia during the Emergency Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
Bukittinggi formerly known as Fort de Kock and was once dubbed as Parijs van Sumatra besides city of Medan. The city is the birthplace of some of the founders of the Republic of Indonesia, among them Mohammad Hatta and Assaat each is proclaimed and the acting president of the Republic of Indonesia.
Aside from being a city of struggle, Bukittinggi is also known as a tourist city air is cool, and siblings (sister city) with Seremban in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The whole area is directly adjacent to the city of Agam regency. Visited tourist spot is the Clock Tower(Jam Gadang), which is a similar to Big Ben clock tower located in the heart of the city as well as a symbol for the city that is on the edge of a valley called Canyon Sianok.
Bukittinggi city is located on the Bukit Barisan range stretching along the island of Sumatra, and is surrounded by two volcanic mountain that is Mount Singgalang and Marapi. The city is at an altitude of 909-941 meters above sea level, and has enough cool air temperatures ranged from 16.1-24.9 ° C. While the total area of the city of Bukittinggi region currently (25.24 km ²), 82.8% were allocated into land for cultivation, while the rest is protected forest.
The town has a hilly topography and valleys, some hills are scattered in urban areas, among Ambacang Hill, Tambun Tulang Hill, MANDIANGIN Hill, Campago Hill, Kubangankabau Hill, Pinang Nan Sabatang Hill, Canggang Hill, Paninjauan Hill and others. While there are well known valley Sianok Canyon with depths varying between 75-110 m, which in essence flows a river called the Batang Masang.
